Mayo County Council Arts Office was awarded funding from the Arts Council Local Partnership Scheme to mark Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the EU. The project, entitled ‘I Could Read The Sky’, saw Mayo Office & Mayo Artsquad work with Dead Good Guides (UK) and local artists to develop an integrated art project, which culminated in a public event at Ballycroy National Park Visitor Centre on April 13th & 14th 2013.
Mayo Artsquad and Dead Good Guides had worked together previously in the NEW GROUND collaboration of 2008, which had a profound effect on the practice of participating artists. 'I Could Read the Sky' offered an opportunity to work together again and to create artworks which engaged with the landscape, local history and community. The physical landscape of Ballycroy, on the periphery of the European continent, sustains a history of human development, inhabitation, craft, trades, culture and the arts. This project unearthed these threads and used that knowledge to raise consciousness around values that shape our present and future.
‘I Could Read the Sky’ received funding through the Arts Council EU Local Partnership Scheme, Mayo County Council, Mayo Artsquad, Community Gain Investment Fund and Ballycroy Visitor Centre. It has also received a huge welcome and invaluable support through the local community.
For more information on the project please contact Mayo Arts Office on 094-9024444 Ext 7471 | 7558 | 7561 or email [email protected].
